Ling Chen

My daily grind varies based on the project or rotation I'm working on. For example, manufacturing is especially different from other rotations. I spent a lot of time on the factory shop floor, alos early starts to sync up with factory shift hours.

6.00 AM

Rise & Shine. The first alarm blares, and I'm up and at 'em! I kick off with a brisk 30-minute yoga session to jolt my body and mind awake. While the coffee machine works its magic, I hop into a refreshing shower. I usually have my outfit picked before bed, this saves me time massively in the morning. Once I'm all set, breakfast in hand, I'm geared up to tackle the day.

Choo Choo to Work. I usually catch the train to work, and our office is conveniently located just a two-minute walk from St Leonards Station. It's worth noting; we have two offices in Sydney—one in St Leonards and the other in Strathfield. My usual haunt is St Leonards. The office embraces a hot desk setup, giving us the liberty to choose any spot. My preference? A desk with a monitor, making Excel wizardry a whole lot smoother with that extra screen space.

Morning Standup. After settling in, I grab my laptop and head to a meeting room, gearing up for my first meeting of the day. We work closely, following an agile style. For the uninitiated, agile is like our teamwork playbook, emphasizing adaptability and collaboration.

Now, about our daily huddles – at 8:30 am and 4:30 pm, we gather as a project team. In the morning meeting, we dive into our action board, circling the room to discuss the day's priorities. It's a dynamic way of keeping everyone in the loop. This setup encourages lively discussions between our team at Argon and the stakeholders on the client side.

Client Engagement. A pivotal segment of my day unfolds with a client workshop. The client is a prominent  petrol service chain in Australia. In these sessions, we as a team present progression of the project and seek feedback from stakeholders. This engagement mirrors the dynamics of a corporate discourse, enriched with data-centric insights.

1.00 PM

Lunchbreak. Usually head out for lunch around this time. Luckily there are quite a few options around the sydney office. I usually go to the train station for a thai or sushi takeaway, and then bring it back to the office to have with my collegues. After lunch, I then get back to work to continue finish my tasks for the day.

Data Dive. The heart of my day revolves around diving deep into data. First up, a meeting with the project lead to dissect our findings. Then, the real fun begins with some serious Excel wizardry. For this work  cleansing the dataset we get from the client – slicing and dicing it into the categories needed for analysis.

In this realm, my toolkit expands to include lookups, pivot tables, and crafting a PowerBI dashboard that's more than just eye candy. Charts become my artistic brush, painting a vivid picture of what the data is trying to say. It's not just number crunching; it's about extracting meaningful insights and spotting trends that give a nod to our hypotheses. Think of it as detective work, but instead of a magnifying glass, I'm armed with spreadsheets!

4.30 PM

Team Wrap-up. It's the end-of-day huddle – the time when we gather to round up and reconcile everyone's achievements and deliverables. We spill the beans on our progress to the project lead, discussing any hurdles in our way or the support we might need from each other. It's the team's chance to sync up and ensure we're all on the same page. Post-huddle, armed with feedback, I lingered a bit to add some polish to my slides.

5.40 PM

Homeward Bound. With everything neatly packed up and powered down, it's time to call it a day and head home!
