Today is a line study day, after getting the overnight tasks done, I’ll head to different sheds to perform line studies. A line study will allow us to gain a deeper understanding of different production lines, and thus identify the key opportunities and threats that drag down efficiency.

My alarm goes off, and it’s another day and I’m currently on a manufacturing rotation which is based in Adelaide.

7.30 AM

Our team headed off from the Airbnb and started driving to the client’s site. It is a 45 minutes drive and the view in Adelaide morning is simply exceptional.

8.15 AM

We arrive at the client’s site. I usually kickstart my work with a good breakfast (three pieces of toast and a coffee at least) from the client’s office as they offer free fresh toast and spreads every day.

The day begins. I usually start my day by checking all overnight emails and wrapping up the residual tasks that I was working on the day before. I have a 2-hour IT workshop to join which is conducted between our team and the client’s representatives. The aim of this workshop is to gain better understanding of the client’s current IT involvement and provide a score in different aspects such as operational management, cybersecurity etc. It is a very interesting workshop as it involves many engaging discussions and action plans between us and our clients.

Its lunch time!! I brought my packed lunch for today even though I’m working in Adelaide. I usually cook on Sunday night in Sydney and put it to the fridge once I arrive in Adelaide on Monday so that I can stay healthy even on a business trip and reduce the number of times to dine out.

Back to work after lunch! It’s time for another line study. I went to another shed for a line study on the machine’s downtime. Here’s a pic I took when I was walking to the shed from the cafeteria.

It’s time to leave the site as we have a 5:20 pm flight back to Sydney to catch. We’ll leave Adelaide on Thursday if we have our fortnightly pollenation meeting in the Sydney office on Fridays. I got into an Uber with my manager and a managing principal to the airport.

While we’re waiting to board, we usually go to the lounge to chill for a bit or wrap up some minor tasks for the day. The Qantas Business Lounge in Adelaide has so many food and beverage options that I can get as much as I want. (Great time to treat it as an afternoon tea).

And here I am back in Sydney. I’m about to catch up with a couple of friends in the city for dinner, a good thing about the company is that free Ubers are provided from the airport so that I can meet my friend by 8 pm. And It’s time to unwind and rest.
