6.00 AM

Getting myself ready for the day- I wake up, have my breakfast, and go out for a walk for 20 minutes in the park nearby. I find doing some exercise in the morning very helpful to refresh my mind. When I come back, I watch some news.

8.30 AM

Work from home. Covid-19 has changed the ways we live and we work. I always check my emails first to see if there are any urgent emails. I will then look at my work calendar to look at the appointments that I planned weeks before and I will send a text to my clients or their families to confirm the booking and ask them if they register any Covid-19 symptoms. Since most of my clients starts from 10 am, I also read the notes prepare session materials for the day. It is important to read the notes because most of my clients require multi-disciplinary interventions so I keep myself updated on my clients’ progress. This is my workstation, check it out.

Office

9.00 AM

Set off- depending on clients’ locations, I usually start to drive around 9 or 9:30. I usually have 2-4 clients a day, ranging from pediatrics to the elderly under age 65. Depending on their diagnosis, I have to develop different interventions, e.g. ADLs training, sensory diet, equipment prescription, home modifications, psychosocial interventions, etc. In our first initial appointment, my client and I identify the issues that hinder their participation in their daily life activities, set up goals and we work towards the goals together. In this climate, we also share our little stories about how to entertain ourselves at home and try something new together. I guess my boding with my clients now becomes even closer because it is not as easy as it was to interact with people in the community.

12.00 PM

Lunchtime. I also use the time to do my documentation. And most importantly a power nap! Just to refresh my mind.

5.30 PM

Usually, I finish my last client by 5:00 pm. I will finish my documentation and head back home for a shower. Sometimes, I conduct telehealth for my last client, so I can go straight to the bathroom after turning off my computer! This could be a bonus if you work in the community. I guess working in the community, we enjoy more freedom in seeing clients, however, sometimes it can be challenging as we do not have a structured timetable. Sometimes the appointments they want clash with each other and you have to move the time slightly up and down to fit both. Sounds like playing Tetris!! However, most of my clients are recurring- so you normally feel stressed at the beginning.

8.00 PM

Lego!! Before lockdown, I usually do my badminton training or play social games. Now, I play lego, which I never thought I would do in my entire life. When I put my last brick on, I had a sense of achievement and quickly went online to buy another one. And it’s not cheap! So I guess I need to work harder to get a bonus!! By the way, our company has a bonus system- once you hit the KPI of 5 hours per day for a couple of months, you get that. And I got one.

class

9.00 PM

I chat with my friends or family online- it's been a while not being able to fly back to catch up with them. I can’t wait for the border to open.

10.00 PM

I usually sleep around this time and am ready for the next day. Good night.
