About the Australian Digital Health Agency

Here at the Australian Digital Health Agency, we’re a Federal Government Agency, responsible for national digital health services and systems. You may not have heard of us, but you’ve definitely heard of our initiatives and programs, My Health Record, e-Prescriptions & Telehealth.

Last year we received a significant investment from the Australian Government to support the ongoing operation of the Australian Digital Health Agency to continue delivering digital health infrastructure and upgrading My Health Record.

Right now, our focus is on putting data and technology safely to work for patients, consumers and the health care professionals who look after them. To do this to the best of our ability, we need to build capability in our workforce and invest in the next generation of innovators, leaders, and difference makers. We want that to take form in our 2025 Graduate Cohort.

“Technology can contribute to closing the gap by improving health care accessibility, quality and safety no matter where people live.” – Amanda Cattermole, CEO

Your New Role

Are you ready to enrich your understanding of HR initiatives that impact the lives of fellow Australians? Join the Australian Digital Health Agency (ADHA) as a HR Graduate. In this role, you’ll get hands-on experience, develop your professional capabilities, attend events with senior leaders across the APS and expand your HR networks. Here’s what to expect:

  • Structured Development: During the 12-month graduate development program, you’ll be engaged at the APS4 level. As a HR Graduate, you’ll undertake 3-4 rotations where you will be exposed to real, relevant and practical projects. You’ll be given the opportunity to bring brand new perspectives and challenge us to do things differently. We know we’re at our best when we do it together, so you’ll walk into a supportive environment where new ideas are welcome, and collaboration is encouraged. Your initial focus will be on administration duties, such as updating personnel records and conducting pay reviews and as you progress, you’ll delve into more complex HR tasks which will enrich your understanding of HR management, labour trends, and business ethics.
  • Real-World Experience: Work on real, relevant, and practical projects. Collaborate with stakeholders, learn from dedicated supervisors and mentors, and explore diverse areas within the Digital Health Landscape.
  • Career Progression: Upon successful completion of the program, you’ll be well-prepared to transition to the APS5 level. ADHA’s Graduate Development Program equips you with the skills needed to excel in your role and make a meaningful impact. We have a very strong focus on ensuring you’re set up for a long career with us, with clear lines of career progression.
  • Foundational Training: The program also includes training to build your foundational knowledge of the Australian Public Service (APS) and government systems. You’ll gain insights into the intricacies of the digital ecosystem.

What You Can Look Forward To

As a HR Graduate at ADHA, you’ll play a vital role in influencing decisions that matter, gain valuable industry experience, and contribute to meaningful projects that help everyone. Here’s what our program offers:

  • Supervisor Support: Your dedicated supervisor will guide you through day-to-day tasks, provide valuable feedback, and help you understand how your work contributes to our goals. Whether your passion or expertise lies in Recruitment, Learning & Development, Workplace Health and Safety, Diversity and Inclusion or Policy, there’s an opportunity to suit your skills, experience, and interests. We’re committed to making sure you get exposure to meaningful projects and gain the skills you’re interested in developing.
  • Real-World Projects: Get hands-on experience with meaningful projects. Your work will directly impact the people operating Australia’s health system, making a difference in people’s lives.
  • Dedicated Buddy: You’ll be allocated a recent graduate from your work area or office, who can provide you with the support that you’ll need while you find your feet.
  • Structured Mentoring Programs: We’ll organise a mentor to coach and guide you in your professional development while you’re in your graduate year, giving you the best chance to develop aspirational goals, and achieve them!
  • Networking Opportunities: You’ll connect with fellow Agency graduates, forming professional networks that support you throughout your career. Collaborate, learn, and grow together as part of our vibrant community.
  • Flexible Working: We’re proud to support our diverse workforce, which includes opportunities for an agreed amount of work performed at home and varied work hours on a case-by-case basis.

What We’re Looking For

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Human Resources, Psychological Science, Business, or related disciplines).
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage priorities.
  • Adaptability and a willingness to learn in a dynamic environment.
  • Passion for contributing to healthcare transformation.

To be eligible to apply, applicants must:

  • Be an Australian citizen or will be by 1 July 2024.
  • Must have completed your university degree within the last five years or be in your final year of study and have completed all your course requirements before commencing our program.
  • Be prepared to obtain and maintain a baseline security clearance.

If you secure a place in our 2025 Graduate Program, you will need to provide evidence of your Australian citizenship and be willing to undergo a National Police Check. The department will guide you through the process of obtaining your baseline security clearance as part of your onboarding process.
