Management at BAE Systems Australia

8.2
8.2 rating for Management, based on 38 reviews
How accessible are managers and do they make good mentors? You may want to address internal communication, performance feedback or praise and recognition.
I have a good working relationship with my manager. I would like more support in capability advancement and planning the scope of how that looks to be executed.

My supervisor sits right next to me in the office so he is very accessible to talk to about any issues I may have. If he isn't in the office on any given day or is working from home I can always also reach out over skype which is used for the internal communication. He always makes me aware if there are any issues with what I am doing and how I can improve on that. When a member of the team goes above and beyond with their delivery or performance an email is always sent out recognising the hard work they are doing.

Managers are very accessible and all very knowledgeable.

They are very accessible. They are good mentors when you ask for help. They are always open for one-on-one conversation. They could provide more performance feedback, as they are quite busy and will not often offer feedback unless it is requested.

I only have good things to say in this regard! All my managers have been great (IE genuinely good managers, not just people who have ended up as managers to fill a void).

They are sometimes hard to reach, given the hierarchical structure of the company. Managers are often very busy and cannot have much hands on time to work with the team

Great and supportive leadership

During my internship I had a fantastic manager and that is still my career mentor today and was and still is extremely accessible and constantly gave me new opportunities and explained to me all different aspects of the business and introduced me to new people. My current manager is good but doesn't have enough time for mentoring and in a way seems to be holding me back because he wants me to learn the basics but is not really showing me how to move beyond that and learn other skills that make for good managers/leaders that I can start developing now.

I have a line manager and a graduate career mentor. Both these people have been incredibly supportive throughout my transition from university to full time work. I am able to discuss career pathways with them and how to get there. My line manager has great internal communication and provides consistent feedback and recognition. In addition to my line manager and mentor, I also get to work alongside more experienced bid managers and assist them with their tasks, where I get frequent feedback and recognition for the work I do to help them.

Managers are always accessible unless they are in meetings. They are very good mentors, always kind and accepting.

My manager has been amazing with their support of me learning and the work that I'm doing. Access can be difficult now that I am no longer based in the same office as him and the project is very full-on, but any issues I've had have been resolved fairly quickly.

All the managers I have had I still speak to on a regular basis. they have been incremental to my career development and have always given me time to have a chat and make comments on my progress or give advice when I seek it out.

Most of my managers have been very good. I only had one that was poor. They tend to make good mentors and are good at providing feedback and recognition. However, they often struggle with wanting to be accessible and wanting to work from home.

It really depends, I've worked for some managers that are very flippy on what the priorities are and you end up being told you are working on the wrong thing. I've also had supportive managers who have pushed for me to get the training I wanted and are supportive when it comes to career goals.

My line manager is excellent,

Managers have been great. All very easy to communicate with and been great mentors

The two direct line managers I have had have been barely present. Minimal communication, essentially no performance feedback and praise or recognition.
