Lucy Pentelow

A big part of my role in these meetings is to write detailed notes. Following the meeting, the adviser and I recap and identify the follow-up actions, usually involving drafting a Statement of Advice with updated investment recommendations.

5.15 AM

My day starts bright and early at 5:15 AM when my alarm goes off. I head straight to a group fitness class at 5:30 AM, which energises me for the day ahead.

.

After the workout, I rush home to shower, pack my bag, and catch the 7:00 AM bus into the city. The commute usually takes 35–40 minutes, so I use the time to listen to a podcast (Shameless or Hamish & Andy are my go-to’s!)

.

8.00 AM

Each morning, we have a meeting featuring various speakers who provide market updates, sector views, specific investment updates, and EAP business news. The entire Private Wealth Management (PWM) team attends, making it an excellent opportunity to ask questions, share ideas, and catch up.

8.30 AM

Coffee time! I usually walk down to Circular Quay with a colleague to grab my regular cappuccino.

.

Back at the office, I sift through emails, prioritizing client messages sent overnight. These often include questions about our client portal, cash transfer requests, or feedback on recent advice. After responding, I organize my day by creating a to-do list and preparing for any client meetings.

.

10.00 AM

When the ASX opens, it’s our first chance to execute market orders for clients. I collect the orders that have come through and ensure the order instructions are explicit and understandable.

10.30 AM

Most days, I attend a client meeting with a Senior Investment or Strategy Adviser.  These meetings often last around an hour and include discussions around the client’s personal circumstances, goals, objectives, investment portfolio reviews & general chit-chat. A big part of my role in these meetings is to write detailed notes. Following the meeting, the adviser and I recap and identify the follow-up actions, usually involving drafting a Statement of Advice with updated investment recommendations.

12.00 PM

I typically have lunch with a few colleagues in the kitchen.

.

We either bring food from home or grab something nearby, with Guzman y Gomez being a crowd favorite!

.

1.00 PM

After a busy morning, I dedicate time to focus on various administrative tasks. I monitor the progress of each task through our client management portal, which helps me communicate with different business divisions and keep track of ongoing tasks.

.

3.00 PM

It's common for a fund manager or CEO to host a call discussing their investment prospects. The investment team listens as the host outlines their strategy, performance, and market outlook.

4.00 PM

When the ASX closes, I review the unfilled orders report and reach out to clients with pending orders to determine their next steps. I also review the next day's calendar to ensure all necessary documents are prepared for upcoming engagements.

5.00 PM

After a productive day, I shut down my laptop and headed home. Once there, I enjoy cooking dinner and relaxing with the latest Netflix series before heading to bed.
