Brooke Carter

I find that communication between supervisors and other interns is great for keeping the workflow smooth.

7.00 AM

I wake up pretty early, but since I'm not a morning person, I need some time before work to fully wake up and relax.

7.30 AM

Once I’m fully awake, I spring out of bed, take a refreshing shower, and enjoy a hearty breakfast to kick-start my day. After getting dressed, I’m ready to head out and take on whatever the day has in store.

8.00 AM

Luckily, I get to leave at 8 am and it’s just a 15-minute drive to the office since I live close to Hawthorn. It makes for a quick and easy start to my day!

8.30 AM

As I walk into the office, I greet everyone with a cheerful 'morning.' Then, I head straight into logging in, checking my emails, and figuring out what tasks are on the agenda for the day.

9.00 AM

Some of the emails I receive involve reaching out to candidates about new positions or responding to online inquiries. I often get updates from another intern about the job we’re both working on, keeping me in the loop. I also enter any meetings scheduled for the day into my calendar, so I can plan and stay organised. I find that communication between supervisors and other interns is great for keeping the workflow smooth.

12.00 PM

About half of the time, I would be organised and bring my lunch from home to save up on money. But if I’m too busy to prep meals, I usually explore the restaurants around the area and scour for some hidden gems. After eating, I'll go for a walk for about 20 minutes to get some exercise and give my eyes an opportunity to rest from staring at a screen all day.

2.00 PM

For the remainder of my day, I go through job applicants or complete job searches on employment websites. I work on this activity for about an hour from 1:30 to 2:00 pm. Depending on the job I’m searching for, potential candidates will be submitted to Bullhorn, contacted, and hopefully, a screening will be set up within 24 hours.

4.30 PM

It’s time to leave but before I sign off for the day, if another intern is taking over the job I’ve started, we communicate via email about it. I also make sure to say goodbye to everyone before I leave!

5.00 PM

When I head home, I do some university work, but on other nights when I’ve been rostered for shift work, I usually work throughout the night. It’s rare that I don’t have something to do after work.

10.00 PM

If I’ve had a shift at work, I’m usually in bed around 11 pm. But if I haven’t been working, I can go to bed around 9:30 to 10 pm.
