Ngochan Lam

Lunchtime is a great time to chat with the other interns and see what they’ve been doing since their internship is vastly different than mine in marketing.

6.00 AM

I usually wake up early in the morning to prepare for my internship. Once my alarm rings, I try to get up right away, brush my teeth, and do my makeup. Sometimes I prepare my outfit the night before, but if I’m running short on time, I just choose something that looks comfortable yet professional.

7.30 AM

I catch the bus to Footscray Station and then I take either the 'City Loop' or another line heading to Flinders Station. From there, I catch a connecting line to get to Glenferrie. Since the trip to Glenferrie takes exactly an hour, I use this time effectively by watching my uni lectures on my phone or researching for my assignments. This way, I’m not too stressed by the time I head home, and it relieves some of the pressure to start on assignments later.

8.00 AM

When I arrive at the office, I greet Lillie and chat about what we did over the weekend. It’s a great way to start the day, catching up with colleagues and finding out what they've been up to. After that, I usually make myself hot chocolate as a substitute for breakfast. Although it’s not very filling, it does its trick by providing me with energy and keeping me alert.

9.00 AM

The first task I do each week is to complete the Top Talent content for candidates in various industries. Once I’ve uploaded the draft to Fuse’s website, I tackle a variety of other tasks. This can include blog writing, content scheduling, or brainstorming ideas for upcoming content.

11.00 AM

If I’m writing a blog, I usually do a lot of research such as collecting data or expert advice before starting out as I like to have a general idea of the topic to accurately inform it.

12.00 PM

Finally, it’s lunchtime! Sometimes if I have time the night before I pack my lunch but usually, I like going out and exploring the different restaurants here. Lunch is also a great time to chat with the other interns and see what they’ve been doing since their internship is vastly different from mine in marketing. Once we all head out to buy food, we return to the office to finish up our lunch. Lunchtime energises me as I can have an opportunity to rest my eyes and also socialise with others.

2.00 PM

Once I’m done with my blog, I send the draft to Lillie for a final review to see if any improvements are needed. During that time, I used Headline Studio to experiment with different blog titles to achieve a high SEO score. Once the blog is finalised, I work on its social media content and graphics for Fuse’s LinkedIn and Instagram. This entire process has taught me the cycle from producing written content to creating a social media schedule, which I found fascinating since I won't learn this in university as a graphic design major.

4.00 PM

It’s time to go home! I say goodbye to everyone in the office and start walking to Glenferrie Station, which is only about a 5-minute' walk from the office. Since I head to the office early, that means I also get to leave early. I prefer to leave by this time as it helps avoid traffic and helps me get home a bit earlier than if I were to leave at 4:30 pm.

5.00 PM

I make my way home and shower immediately. After that, I usually either have a group meeting for my uni assignment or work on any other assignments that need to be tackled.

7.00 PM

After I do some studying, I relax by spending time with my family and watching Netflix together. We all love watching films and make sure to watch at least one every night.

12.00 PM

Although I would love to be a morning person, I somehow always stay awake up to 12 pm or 1 am doing various other tasks like designing or drawing. This helps me relieve stress before going to sleep.
