Anna Toh

I loved being able to complete reference checks, and phone screens, and provide ideal candidates to recruiters in need.

What's your job about?

Hi, my name is Anna Toh and I’m currently studying Behavioural Science and Business at Queensland University of Technology. I’m planning to graduate at the end of 2024, so gaining experience as a recruitment intern with the manufacturing team at Fuse Recruitment has been incredibly valuable for me.

What's your background?

I grew up in Brisbane, but between the ages of 16 and 18, my family and I moved to the USA, where I completed high school. I began my degree at QUT in 2019, then took an 18-month break to complete volunteering services in Russia. Since then, I have also had the opportunity to get married and am now on the verge of completing my university degree. I am currently applying for competitive roles in consulting firms to advise on strategy and operations with companies like Deloitte or KPMG.

Could someone with a different background do your job?

In my role, I’d actively participate in various aspects of the recruitment process, including conducting thorough reference checks, handling pre-screening phone calls, sourcing potential candidates through SEEK talent search, completing Vevo checks to verify work eligibility, and providing support during interviews. Each task gave me hands-on experience and helped me build a strong foundation in recruitment.

What's the coolest thing about your job?

The coolest thing about my internship has been the opportunity to participate in real work and make a difference. I loved being able to complete reference checks, and phone screens, and provide ideal candidates to recruiters in need. I feel like I'm contributing to the work, and I love being able to help people who are in need find the right job for them and see how much it means to them!

What are the limitations of your job?

The downside of having an internship so far away is the long commute, which takes around 2 hours, leaving me with less time for my university work and regular job. It’s been tight for the last few weeks, but it won’t last forever! Time flies by more quickly than you think. It’s an invaluable experience that I’d recommend to anyone!
