In this internship, I’ve especially enjoyed learning about the hiring process, reference checks, and interviewing procedures.

What's your job about?

Hi, I’m Brooke, and I’m excited to be in my final year of studying for a Bachelor of Business Marketing at Federation University. I was fortunate to have landed an internship with Fuse Recruitment as a Business Development intern. It’s an amazing opportunity to apply what I’ve learned in a real-world setting for my graduation.

What's your background?

I’ve lived in Warragul, Gippsland, ever since I was young. Growing up in a small country town, moving to the city was always a dream of mine. I moved to Melbourne in November last year to not only live independently but also to immerse myself in new environments and gain valuable job experience

Could someone with a different background do your job?

I’ve been working since I was 15, always holding a casual or part-time job, which has taught me a lot about managing my time effectively. I also have a strong interest in learning about the various processes behind businesses. In this internship, I’ve especially enjoyed learning about the hiring process, reference checks, and interviewing procedures.

What's the coolest thing about your job?

When I first arrive at the office, my day begins with greeting everyone, starting my computer, and checking emails. Within the first 10 minutes, I get updates from co-workers and see which tasks need to be completed that day. Typically, I start by working on candidate profiles and then move on to reviewing and sifting through recent job applicants.

Throughout the day, I make calls regarding online inquiries. After lunch, I spent about an hour working on CRM and data health management tasks. This project involves managing our marketing emails, where we categorise businesses and their contacts. At the end of the day, I allocate time to conduct job searches and contact successful candidates for screenings and interviews. Another interesting job is making job ads for clients, for this task, we complete research and get all the small details about the job and present it.

What are the limitations of your job?

This internship with Fuse hasn’t been overwhelming; I come in two days a week, get my work done, and go home. While it’s not a limitation, it's worth noting that this role includes elements of sales. I enjoy this aspect, but a sales position isn’t for everyone.
