My internship involves generating and curating material for various platforms, ensuring it aligns with marketing goals.

What's your background?

I was a social media intern at Fuse Recruitment, where I created content for social media that aligned with their marketing campaigns. I graduated from high school in 2020 and went straight into the University of Melbourne to do Bachelor of Design, majoring in Graphic Design and minoring in UX Design. Throughout my education, I have always worked part-time and participated in volunteer graphic design work along with freelancing to establish a strong background for myself. Since my graduation in 2023, I have just been working part-time whilst looking for experience. Therefore, I started an internship at Fuse Recruitment as a Social Media Intern!

What's your job about?

My internship involves generating and curating material for various platforms, ensuring it aligns with marketing goals. I also assist in creating graphics and blog posts, use scheduling tools for optimal posting times, and monitor channels for engagement. Here and there, I'd be brainstorming ideas to boost growth and engagement, and conducting research on industry trends and competitor activity.

Could someone with a different background do your job?

Someone with a different background could certainly excel in a social media internship at Fuse Recruitment. As long as you possess a creative flair and a deep understanding of people, interactions, and the world around you, you can effectively apply your existing knowledge in social media and marketing. Your ability to think creatively and strategically, combined with a keen insight into human behaviour and trends, will enable you to thrive in this role.

What's the coolest thing about your job?

The coolest thing about my internship is the creative freedom I have to craft engaging and impactful social media content. I get to experiment with Fuse Recruitment's brand guidelines to see what resonates best with our audience. Every day brings new challenges and opportunities to learn and grow. Whether it's brainstorming new content ideas, or analysing engagement metrics, there's always something exciting to work on. I particularly enjoyed writing new blogs. It was a new challenge as I had never written an article before, having to research the content I had to write, ensure I target a particular audience, multiple drafts after feedback to publication. Moments of feedback as it is something I am constantly seeking for. With improvements made, it reaffirms that my work resonates with Fuse's marketing goals.

What are the limitations of your job?

There are no limitations of the internship - lots of flexibility and understanding. Participating in an internship doesn't bear any demanding responsibility as the goal is to learn, earn feedback, and better myself for the future. While I do come in three days a week and work part time on weekends, I still maintain a great work-life balance. Though I stare at screen at both roles, I make sure to give my mind and eyes a short rest here and there! I was able to gain extensive work experience in marketing and social media at Fuse Recruitment, and ultimately see how they utilised their marketing campaigns to resonate with passive/active job seekers and employers.
