Management at GHD

8.4
8.4 rating for Management, based on 42 reviews
How accessible are managers and do they make good mentors? You may want to address internal communication, performance feedback or praise and recognition.
It is mixed, however none of them have enough time to be managers as they are all trying to also be full time engineers.

Managers within my business group are very approachable, good mentors and good feedback

Managers have been supportive, but my direct manager has been very hands-off and I would have liked a bit more proactive support. I have asked a couple of times to have some support seeking out particular projects/types of work or seeking out assistance completing my work, but whilst I have always been met with assent this hasn't materialised. I've now been moved to a different team and the manager is more proactive which I'm really liking. However, I do want to say both managers have been very supportive and good with managing some stressful discussions, and I have always felt supported. I think the fact that work is one of the first places I have disclosed my neurodivergence says a lot about the incredibly supportive culture and management definitely makes that possible. My BGL has been a very good manager; he has gone out of his way to recognise and compliment me on taking advantages of opportunities that arise, and I think is a big part of creating the team culture of support, recognition, and shared purpose.

I was able, before I had even started working for GHD, to meet up with the water team BGL to talk about career progression and opportunities. This was an invaluable experience and taught me so much about the company. This is a very common story, there is no disparity between graduates and managers, everyone works within a team and while approval and other seniority requirements need to be met, it is very simple to have a conversation with a senior person and you never feel as though you are below them.

It would depend on the manager, I would say that it is mostly positive. Many managers are very busy so do not always have the time but they all try their best to be available.

I am happy with how supportive Carla Pignatelli is. She is very understanding. I have not really worked with others managers closely, however it's been great to learn from their expertise.

Its a little difficult to approach managers at the moment as there are not enough middle management mentors to provide support in the absence of senior Managers.

The managers have always been accessible and ready to lend a hand at a moments notice. I have always recieved helpful feedback whenever I have asked which is great for my learning. My project managers have always been very supportive, understanding, and have given credit where credit is due

Flat culture means everyone is approachable.

Very accessible and approachable.

Very good and knowledgeable however with the changes in our team, it can be hard to catch them at a good time. Very good at letting you know when you've done well on a project though.

Managers are easy going and happy to answer any questions. They provide good feedback on project work and have a praise process in place through monthly meetings.

My manager and team leads are all amazing with both positive, and constructive feedback. I have never worked in a more supportive environment.

My team leader has been excellent. Very approachable and always happy to help. They've given great feedback through our check ins and are always keen to get me involved in what I'm interested in.

I am extremely happy with the my managers in my team. They are social and connect well with the team, while maintaining a professional atmosphere. They are very happy to accommodate whatever you need to improve your work life balance.
Graduate, Sydney - 02 Nov 2023
Team leads are good, praise and recognition happens occasionally
Graduate, Brisbane - 02 Nov 2023
The managers are very accessible and happy to have a catch whenever. My managers are not really my mentors instead the senior engineers on my team are as the managers are usually very busy. Every three months there are performance reviews where you go over your goals for the next few months or years and they let you know anything you can improve or what you are doing well.

I have had nothing but positive experiences with the managers I have interreacted with. Whether this be through giving me praise, mentorship, or dealing with issues that I have.

We recently had a structure shift with 2 new team leaders. My team leader is fantastic, they're an excellent communicator and have assisted me with lifestyle and working changes, and with technical development. They give feedback well, constructive and praise. They're a proactive communicator. I find our technical director more approachable since this change, and our BGL very approachable and empathetic.

I think there is access to your managers if you reach out but I think there needs to be more care for YPs/Grads and check-ins/guidance. I do not have a mentor yet but feel like when grads first join they should be buddied with someone in their discipline. The approach to the internal tasks is done on a quarterly basis
