What Graduates Say About Them
  • 1. Remuneration 2. The types of deals you get put on as a junior are great. They give you a lot of responsibility, which is a great opportunity.
  • The people, culture, benefits, interesting clients and matters
  • I have endless opportunities to participate in complex and interesting commercial and pro bono matters. I also love working for a law firm that is genuinely committed to progressive social justice ideals.
  • Gilbert + Tobin is an egalitarian workplace that gives graduates and junior lawyers the opportunity to be heard. Personally, I have benefited from this immensely, having had the opportunity to get involved in matters and work streams of interest and accelerate my personal and professional development.
  • Quality of work, limited hierarchy, inclusive culture, training opportunities, and support structure (both professional and personal) are available for a graduate or junior.
  • Having to work late every now and again.
  • Tight deadlines can be challenging at times.
  • Not having control over my day or the work that I complete, and trying to manage other junior colleagues expectations while doing work for partners.
  • The potential for unforeseen, arduous deadlines to spring up, providing challenging short-term periods
  • The ups and downs of work are sometimes hard to manage. There are large peaks of working long hours and then quiet periods where it is hard to stay motivated.

Graduate Success Stories

  • Graduate stories
Don’t catastrophise when you face adversity. This goes for both academic and non-academic adversities. If you don’t get good grades or aren’t successful in a job application, don’t see it as a failure. Instead, see it as a learning experience—reflect on what you did right and what you could have done better, and take some lessons from it.
