The amount and quality of informal training varies considerably between teams. Opportunities for informal training and in-house learning are good. Opportunities for formal and external training and development for graduates is more limited.

On the job training was good. Would like more support with formal training (e.g. opportunity to get tickets whilst completing the program)

I did the usual inductions. I haven't done many development programs but the informal, on-the-job training has been taught by qualified operators and metallurgists. From identifying safety hazards and reporting, to learning how to be an operator for different sections of the process plant, to performing size analysis, taking samples, using machinery and completing met accounting tasks I have learnt many soft skills and hard skills which I can apply as I move forward in my career. Additionally, the excel skills I have picked up using macros will no doubt benefit me in the long run.

Quite informal and on the job as it is with most internships. I assume this varies greatly based on your direct supervisor, but I generally feel like although the learning is very self-motivated, I know I can always ask my supervisors any questions I may have, and I am not expected to complete work beyond my current capabilities. Although it would be nice to be given a few challenges to learn something new.
