It seems that if you have a solid reason to change your hours or work from home then it is allowed but not just by preference

As I am FIFO I work long swings but get R+R allowing for rest and recover. Being out in site it allows for less time in the office and more time at site seeing the practices being used in real life situations.

it's a 40 hour work week, you don't get paid for working more, but if you end up working a little more each day they don't seem to mind when you take a long lunch, or head off early on friday - stuff like that
