Your role

Providing assistance to the General Counsel and Leader Legal Services to provide independent legal direction and advice to the business on its activities as Tasmania’s State-owned Transmission and Distribution Network Service Provider.  The graduate program will provide the opportunity to undertake legal projects and duties, commensurate with your personal knowledge and skills, and see you rotate through different areas of the business as part of the program. You will gain valuable knowledge, skills, commercial and practical experience in relation to in-house legal functions.  A TasNetworks graduate program is not a generic graduate program – they recruit for your specific skillset and focus on tailoring the program around you!

Training & development

TasNetworks is recognised as one of the top graduate employers. This opportunity is a fixed-term, 2-year opportunity, commencing in February 2025. At TasNetworks, they want to power a bright future for their people, community and customers and they offer a supportive work environment where safety is at the heart of everything they do. You’ll be offered unique opportunities to learn, rotate through different areas of the business and excel in your career, engage with exceptional team members, build a network of colleagues (and friends!) and work with industry leaders across the state. It's a challenging and rewarding learning experience that attracts quality grads from across Tasmania, Australia and the world.

Benefits

TasNetworks offers its team excellent benefits including:

  • Great professional development opportunities
  • Flexible work arrangements
  • Paid volunteer days
  • Free onsite parking
  • Onsite gyms (or gym rebate if unavailable)
  • All the equipment you'll need to be successful

Career progression

Two initiatives TasNetworks has introduced to achieve their aim are Career Pathways and Multi-skilling. The Career Pathways aims to create clear pathways for team members to progress from apprentices through to technical leaders, team leaders and advisory positions with supporting competency-based training, secondment opportunities, on-the-job learning and assessment. The Multi-skilling aspires to create a field workforce capable of completing a majority of electrical network activities.

Work-life balance

As TasNetworks gives importance to work-life balance, they have a formalized policy related to flexible working arrangements in place. They also offer paid holiday, vacation or annual leave, as well as personal sick leave.

Company culture

At TasNetworks, the emphasis is on prioritizing customers, prioritizing safety, unity in overcoming challenges, and embracing diversity and forward thinking. The company is dedicated to enhancing customer experiences, ensuring safety, fostering trusting relationships, and enabling its staff to provide value. Additionally, TasNetworks focuses on managing assets for safe and reliable services, transforming the business, and operating sustainably for shareholder outcomes.

About you

To be successful in this role and become part of the graduate program, you will hold a tertiary qualification in Law (having graduated or graduating in 2022-2024) and a current driver's license. The ability to communicate effectively and work well in small teams across many areas of the business is essential. A commercial, pragmatic and flexible approach with excellent research skills combined with sound computing skills and the ability to think strategically and manage concurrent tasks are key success drivers to being a Law Graduate with TasNetworks.
