Holly Parkin

This morning, I have my first meeting with the Graduate Steering Committee. It’s exciting to be able to work with other graduates and graduate program alumni to help all the grads in the program get the most out of the experience.

5.45 AM

Time to wake up. I’ve always been more of a morning person, so I like to get my day started early.

6.45 AM

After making myself a coffee and saying goodbye to my cat, I head off to catch the train.

7.30 AM

It’s a short walk to the office from the station. Once I’m in, I get set up, check my emails, and plan out what tasks I have to work on for the day.

I also get in touch with my mentor to organie our first meeting. I’m looking forward to hearing about their career experience and gain a greater understanding of the wider business and what opportunities are available.

8.00 AM

First up today I continue working on a short informational plan on the project sustainability targets. This plan provides information on what’s included and excluded, how the target might be met, and how this has been done in other projects. I finish the draft and send it off for feedback.

10.30 AM

This morning, I have my first meeting with the Graduate Steering Committee. It’s exciting to work with other graduates and graduate program alumni to help all the grads in the program get the most out of the experience. We plan for a graduate dinner, site visits, and brainstorming ‘Lunch & Learn’ topics.

11.30 AM

I have a quick catch-up with a co-worker from the commercial team to update them on the tasks I’ve been working on for them and see if there’s anything else I can help out with. As an engineering grad, it’s a great way to get exposure to the commercial side of the project.

12.00 PM

Now I head off to the weekly team meeting. Once a week, the whole team gets together to go through ongoing issues, and upcoming events, and share updates on what’s happening in the coming week. It’s great to hear what everyone has been working on.

Meeting

1.30 PM

After the team meeting, it’s time for a late lunch. It’s a nice day, so I head to the café across the road for a jaffle and then go for a walk.

2.00 PM

To finish off the day, I have a look at the updated project program. An update gets shared monthly, and I have a read-through and take note of any changes from the previous month and see what activities are upcoming.

I also got a message from our environmental and sustainability advisor about a new task that has come up for me to work on in the next couple of weeks, so I made a note to look into this more and get started tomorrow morning.

3.30 PM

Time to head home.

4.30 PM

Once I’m home, I feed my cat, and then I go out for a quick walk.

6.00 PM

After I have dinner, I spend the rest of my evening reading and watching tele.
