ABOUT VAGO

The Victorian Auditor-General’s Office (VAGO) is a critical part of the State’s integrity system. Independent to Parliament, VAGO ensures the accountability of the Victorian Government through audits and assurance reviews of public sector agencies.

Our Financial Audit (FA) division provides independent assurance to Parliament that our public sector agencies provide reliable, relevant, and fair financial information in their reporting, in accordance with the Australian Accounting Standards and other relevant legislation.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU

VAGO is dedicated to putting its people first and offers a ‘Better Normal’; a working life that aligns your professional and personal values.

As a VAGO Financial Audit graduate you will:

  • work with impact; take on interesting, hands-on and rewarding work that serves purpose for the community
  • improve the lives of Victorians by helping drive government accountability
  • collaborate with senior leaders
  • receive a VPS2.2.1 total remuneration package of $75,316
  • receive training programs tailored to your personal and professional goals
  • enjoy flexible working arrangements, including working from home, office or any other locations
  • receive best-practice compliant workstation delivered to your home and at the office
  • be given assistance to join a professional accounting organisation, such as a CPA or CA
  • be eligible to apply for study support, help on their coursework and study time off.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

You will directly contribute to the delivery of our financial audits while undertaking a comprehensive training program in your first year. This will provide a solid foundation to build a successful career in audit.

WHAT YOU HAVE STUDIED

While most of our team members are accountants, we also offer an alternative pathway for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) graduates interested in financial audit.

We welcome both graduates who have followed traditional accounting study pathway at University and STEM graduates eligible to undertake a foundation program with CA or CPA.

IS IT YOU WE ARE LOOKING FOR?

Our graduates are inquisitive, collaborative, critical thinkers and motivated to learn. They often understand the broader context and importance of the work they deliver and may have particular sector interests, such as education, environment, finance, health, justice, transport and planning or other community services.

You might be surprised at how diverse our audit teams are. We have people from academic backgrounds, the public service, and from a range of professions. Our hand-picked candidates work with these bright minds and have freedom to explore their own bold ideas and solutions.

As a graduate, you will learn a lot in your first year of work, building solid foundations for your career journey.

LIFE AFTER THE GRADUATE PROGRAM

After your 12 months as a Financial Audit Graduate, the opportunities continue! Subject to performance, you will have a permanent ongoing Auditor role in the Financial Audit Division and we will continue to support your career development and offer study assistance for further education.
