We get a lot of training in from insurers and senior brokers on all types of topics. I found the graduate training a bit vague, however it is a very complex industry and it would have been very difficult to retain all the advanced knowledge if it were taught.

The company provides a range of formal and informal training. Typically regulatory and contextual background training is taught early on. In addition professionalism and code of conduct is also taught in formal training sessions. Much of the technical and practical training is conducted on the job, but owing to the ease of communication and culture of the company, this on the job training is very accommodating and in-depth.

Training and development is largely through direct experience on jobs, and there is not much of a formal program to get started. Work is so varied that this arrangement makes sense, but what you learn can come down to luck on who/what you work with, and who is available to give some tips. Regular training sessions are scheduled throughout each year which are useful, but the timing may not be aligned with when the knowledge would be most useful, as everyone works on different projects.
