Activity based working, much more collaborative than competitive, not hierarchical, great social inclusion out of office hours with team drinks and events.

The culture is dependent on the office you are in. In the Bendigo head office there is a lack of hard working culture. In my team, culture is fantastic, people work hard and work together to deliver outcomes. There is a view at times that in the organisation it is about who you know, not what you know. Often they promote people without the skillset necessary because they are in the right location.

Our community-focus is embedded in our culture and it starts with our MD. When it comes to our passion for helping communities, we don't just talk the talk, we walk the walk. As our MD says, I'm proud to work for a bank that feeds into the prosperity of our customers, not off it. We have a traditional top-down hierarchy, but our Executives and sit in open plan work-spaces, side-by-side with employees at any level of the organisation structure. Everyone is warm and approachable, and you are given opportunities to work with senior leaders very early in your journey with the bank.

Flexible and understanding. Staff are friendly and willing to help.

Open office, so the hierarchy seems less obvious as one day you might sit next to a credit analyst, while another day you might sit next to the Chief Risk Officer. Due to the nature of the work, there needs to be a lot of teamwork and cooperation, often with interstate stakeholders, meaning team meetings using Video Conferencing is very common.
