Our clerkship and graduate programs are designed to ensure that you quickly become a part of our team from the moment you arrive. You will be involved in high-quality work and working closely with your experienced colleagues, including partners, to learn and develop your skills in a collaborative and supportive environment. We also want you to enjoy your time with us – there are lots of social activities and events you can get involved in or attend.

Recruitment Process

At Thomson Geer, we are looking for hard-working and motivated law students who are enthusiastic about commencing their career with a dynamic, collaborative and growing law firm. We view all of our clerks as potential graduates, and all of our graduates as potential leaders. If your ambitions are to develop a career in law and you possess the drive to make your ambitions a reality, then we want to hear from you.

Our clerks and graduates are curious, hungry to learn and committed to constant innovation and improvement.

Our recruitment process ensures we get to know and your interests in law, it is tailored to best demonstrate your skills within a variety of stages: 

  1. Online Written application including your resume, cover letter and current official academic transcript
  2. A virtual interview where you are provided with time to review our questions, plan and present your answers
  3. In person interview with two Partners 
  4. Offer of Clerkship /Graduate Program or feedback from the process.

Clerkship

  • Clerks are able to express preferences for their placement areas 
  • Thorough induction with a myriad of training from colleagues, technology trainers and partners 
  • Seminars on each practice area to deepen your understanding of what each group does and allowing you the chance to ask plenty of questions 
  • Buddy system in place to regularly reflect on learnings and check in 
  • Supervising partners are accessible to answer questions and work side by side on tasks as they come in 

Most of our clerks become our graduates, some even work as a Law Clerk on an ongoing basis before joining us a graduate. 

Graduate Program

  • Graduates are able to express preferences for placement areas to rotate through in their graduate program. 
  • New Lawyer Training series which provides practical sessions like "Preparing for Court", "Client Service Skills" and "Personal Reputation" delivered by senior lawyers to help you build professional and personal skills.
  • Firm-wide in-house CPD seminars. 
  • Partners will work with you throughout your career providing you with feedback on your development and assisting your further development in line with your goals.
