Service Stream actively targets the soft skills required to succeed as a professional, while ensuring graduates have a holistic understanding of how the business works.

What was it that interested you to apply for a career at Service Stream initially?

Before looking for a suitable graduate program, I was interested in commercial roles given their all-encompassing reach. As someone with business and technical acumen, I was actively searching for a business role in technology and engineering-focused companies.

Being a multifaceted Business across Telco, Utilities and Transport, I knew Service Stream would be a truly exciting company to work for.

What's your current role at Service Stream?

Commercial Graduate within the Transport divisions PMO.

What’s your background? (Tell us about yourself)

I have a Bachelor of Science (Applied Physics) and a Bachelor of Business (Finance) from the University of Technology, Sydney. I worked across a range of internships in data analytics, operations, and finance.

How have your studies helped you in your current role?

While the university only provides an entry-level understanding of the workforce, I believe the following areas helped me hit the ground running:

  • Teamwork – learning how to organise and prioritise work and work with a team you may not know well during university allowed me to approach the workforce with transferable skills that apply to any business role.
  • Software – Understanding how to use software to complete an objective was crucial for me. Whether it be data analysis with Excel, communications with Microsoft Teams to learning how to code, all can be applicable in a commercial role.
  • Business principles – Understanding both contracts and the financial fundamentals of business helped me kick-start my role as a part of the PMO team.

What are you passionate about in your role?

I am passionate about delivering my highest quality outputs no matter the task. My team recognise this and actively works with you to apply your ideas across a wide range of projects and initiatives.

What is something exciting you are currently working on?

Implementation of a business intelligence reporting tool to be used across the entire transport entity, working with contract managers to enhance performance visibility and communicate messages more directly at office sites. This involves a wide range of soft and hard skills, including stakeholder management, procurement and understanding of Power BI and databases for reporting.

How would you describe the culture for a Graduate at Service Stream?

One thing has been consistent across many people in the Transport business - Graduates are encouraged to make the role their own, push the boundaries, offer ideas and work together to network and make a positive impact across the company.

What has been the most empowering moment in your Graduate Journey at Service Stream so far?

Contributing valuable analytical help to an important project. From initially being relied on as an expert to overcome a crucial hurdle of a project, I was assisted from the start and managed to produce some very important insights. Getting congratulated by the EGM for producing this work was a very empowering moment.
