Liryl Anysa Macalipot

Service Stream has always solicited and listened to my opinions on the path I wanted to take on and I believe this should always be the foundation of one’s career.

What was it that interested you to apply for a career at Service Stream initially?

At that time, I was looking for a change in terms of my career. As I have been working in the Telco Space for almost 3 years in the Philippines, I want to take on a new field but would like to make sure that the opportunity for me in Telco would still be open if I want to venture my way back. I saw the chance to the graduate program that included a 2-year rotation and that was exactly what I needed. Service Stream has been one of the leading competitors in the Telco Space and I  saw the opportunity of the rotation in the graduate program as well, which is a key point to kick off my career with Service Stream.

What's your current role at Service Stream?

I am currently a Graduate Structural Engineer in the Wireless Telecommunication space

What’s your background? (Tell us about yourself)

I am a Civil engineer working for 3 years in the Telco Space in the Philippines and moved to Melbourne last September 2022.

How have your studies helped you in your current role?

As Civil Engineer, we have been taught every bit of theoretical approaches in terms of designing and constructing structures. In my current role, I have been able to apply all these computations and theoretical discussions and was able to physically witness in practice what we have been taught in university.

What are you passionate about in your role?

I was very passionate about designing Structural Steel Towers. Last year, I was given the opportunity of being exposed to the Utilities sector during my first year of rotation with the graduate program but I eventually moved back to the telco space this year. Throughout that journey, I enjoyed my time with the Utilities sector, but have come to realize that I was very passionate about designing. Even though I am still learning and adjusting to the Australian codes, my passion for being able to witness the designs of my colleagues and myself come to life and how this impacts the community is something very fulfilling in my role.

What is something exciting you are currently working on?

Alongside my current role, we (me and my fellow 2nd year graduates) are involved in a project called Mobile EV Chargers. This has been very interesting and exciting for us as this field is very new to us being Civil and Mechanical engineers hence, we are learning a lot of things such as technical aspects of Mobile EV Chargers and Electric vehicles. The idea itself is very futuristic and relevant which gives us that sense of fulfillment.

How would you describe the culture for a Graduate at Service Stream?

In my experience, through the yearly social activities and get-togethers provided by Service Stream, I was able to build good relationships with my Co-graduates. As we got to experience new things together, we were able to share thoughts, ideas, opinions and even our challenges in our roles which made the whole working environment comfortable and light. I have also been very thankful for being with amazing managers and colleagues, both past and current, as they have always been very willing to extend help in all ways possible and mentor me with any questions I have in mind. By far, I highly recommend the working culture and environment of the service stream.

What has been the most empowering moment in your Graduate Journey at Service Stream so far?

In the graduate program, we have an activity called the Evolution Series. In this yearly activity, each graduate gets to participate and present their journey with Service Stream to the directors, managers, and employees. I think this has been one of my empowering moments with the company. As we were to present ourselves, we got to reflect on how we’ve been travelling so far with our roles and how far we’ve come with the program. It’s a good refresher on how we currently stand with our profession and see the projects we’ve currently worked on. The idea of that itself is a good way to empower and bring self-awareness to us to prosper and keep going with our journeys.

How does Service Stream help support you as a Graduate in building the foundations of your career?

Service Stream has always solicited and listened to my opinions on the path I wanted to take on and I believe this should always be the foundation of one’s career. Take on a path that you deem is right for you and look for a company that will not push you through a certain path you are not interested in at all but instead will guide you towards what you want to pursue. They have provided me with all the necessary tools and training that I would need to further improve my skills and have provided me with mentors who would help me throughout the process.

What have you gained so far from working at Service Stream as a Graduate?

I have greatly appreciated the opportunity to build solid relationships with my colleagues and co-graduates. I think more than the technical skills and communication skills I have gathered through the year, I consider relationships as one of the greatest gains I got from this program.
